Overview of the ITU events calendar for 2019

24 January 2019

The year 2019 promises to be no less saturated and rich in bright races in countries and cities located on five continents. As we all know, all ITU competitions are divided into several levels: World Triathlon Series, World Cups, World Paratriathlon Series, Paratriathlon World Cup, Continental Championships, Continental Cups and Multisport Events. We have prepared a brief overview of the ITU events calendar for 2019.

This year, 159 ITU sporting events will be held on the American (37), African (22), Asian (32) and European (59) continents, as well as in the Oceania (9), covering 67 countries of the world.

The 11th season of the World Triathlon Series will consist of 8 stages, the first of which starts on March 8-9 in Abu Dhabi (UAE). Further, on April 27-28, all attention will shift to the beautiful Bermuda Islands, the brightest representative of which is the 2017 world champion Flora Duffy. The third stage of the world series will be held on May 18-19 in the land of the rising sun on the famous Yokohama’s course. The fourth stage, June 8-9, will be hosted by Leeds city - the birthplace of the two-time Olympic champion Alistair Brownlee. Then, on June 28-29, the strongest triathletes will test their strength on the Montreal track in Canada. Citizens of Hamburg will be lucky to see the sixth race of the world series on July 6-7. Pre-final race will take place in Edmonton on July 20-21. The main event of the year - the ITU World Triathlon Grand Final in 2019 will be held in the Olympic Capital - in Lausanne (Switzerland). From August 29 to September 1, the whole world will watch hundreds of triathletes from different parts of the world who will determine the best of the best in a city rich in sports culture.

This year, the World Paratriathlon Series will consist of 3 stages, starting April 27 in Milan (Italy), further May 18-19 in Yokohama, and finally, the final stage will take place on June 28 in Montreal.

The World Cup will be consisting of 18 races, the first of which will be held February 9-10 in Cape Town. And the last stage of the Cup will take Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic). It should be noted here that on June 15-16 in the Astana Triathlon Park the traditional race ITU World Cup Astana will take place.

The Paratriathlon World Cup in 2019 will consist of 7 stages, which will be held monthly in one start from March to October. The accumulation of triathletes with "unlimited" capabilities will be observed in such cities as Devenport (Australia), Besancon (France), Magog (Canada), Tokyo (Japan), Banyoles (Spain), Alanya (Turkey) and Funchal (Portugal).

At the same time, 21 Continental Championships and 65 Continental Cups will be organized around the world. We would like to especially note that for the first time in the history of Kazakhstan's triathlon, our country will host three Asian continental cups at once, which will be held on May 25-26 in Shymkent, on August 3-4 in Almaty and on September 21-22 in Aktau, which will also host the final of the “TEMIRADAM” Cup.

The third Multisport Festival will be held in the Spanish city of Pontevedra from April 27 to May 5, where athletes and paratriatlets from around the world will compete in such disciplines as aquathlon, cross triathlon, duathlon, long distance triathlon and aquabike.

And we, in turn, will wait for all our Age Group athletes at our competitions, especially at the World Cup in Astana and at the continental Asian Cups in Shymkent, Almaty and Aktau, where everyone will have the opportunity to "test" the track where world elite athletes compete. Kep the tracks of events and do triathlon.
