From the moment of completion of the swimming course, the leaders of the race were immediately visible, the first athlete from Japan, Niina Kishimoto, sailed to the shore, the second was Ukrainian Margarita Krylova, and the third was another Japanese athlete, Hiraku Fukuoka, who from the very beginning was considered the favorite world ranking among the participants of the Cup. The first of the Kazakhstani athletes and the sixth overall swimming stage was completed by the representative of the Almaty triathlon school - Gaziza Kumakbayeva, having lost only 18 seconds to the leader in swimming, which proves the intensity of the struggle between the participants.

Then the athletes went over to the bicycle stage, in which Hiraku Fukuoka first came to the transit zone, having traveled a distance of 20 km in 30 minutes and 16 seconds, her teammate Niina Kishimoto and South Korean athlete Ji Yeon Kim caught up with the leader. Among our athletes, Arina Shulgina finished the bike course of the first, significantly reducing the gap from eighth place to fourth in the overall standings after two stages.

The final stage of the race was very tense, the athletes literally fought for seconds, advancing on each other’s heels. The best result of the running stage was shown by Kazakhstan's Arina Shulgina, who ran 5 km in 18 minutes and 36 seconds, followed by the best time for athletes from the land of the rising sun. However, our athlete Arina Shulgina did not manage to compensate for the initial lag with the best running result and to get into the top three.

In the final protocol of the Almaty Asian Cup 2018 among women in the Elite category, the first and second places were deservedly occupied by the representatives of Japan - Niina Kishimoto, who showed 01 hour 38 seconds, and Hiraku Fukuoka, who crossed the finish line with a difference of only 3 seconds. Less than a minute, the South Korean athlete Ji Yeon Kim lost to the Japanese athlete and won the bronze medal. Kazakhstani Arina Shulgina became the fourth overall, behind only participants from the oldest triathlon schools on the Asian continent.

Also in the top ten are Kazakhstani, who took the 9th and 10th lines, respectively: Nadezhda Bekmaganbetova, the repeated winner of regional scale starts with the result of 1 h. 7 min. 10 sec and the repeated winner of the republican championships at different distances Ashraf Kamalova, who showed time 1 h. 7 min. 49 sec. In this group were members of our national triathlon team Meirlan Iskakov and Temirlan Temirov. Again, the final running stage finally determined the triathletes worthy of climbing the podium of the continental Cup.

Totally, today in Almaty, the Elite men's sprint distance was overcome by only 35 athletes, gold among whom was won by Hong Kong representative Oscar Coggins with the best result of the day - 54 minutes 43 seconds. Ukrainian Ivan Ivanov was second on the podium, losing to Coggins in just 7 seconds. The top three was closed by another representative of the city-state, Jason Tai Long Ng, who reached the finish line in 55 minutes. Among Kazakhstan's Meirlan Iskakov and Temirlan Temirov entered the top ten of the final protocol, taking the 9th and 10th places with the results of 56 min. 19 sec. and 56 min. 31 sec. respectively.
