Kazakhstani Ironmen storm the Ironman 140.6 Barcelona

7 October 2019

Meanwhile, while we watched the performance of our professional athletes at the European Cup in Turkey, Ironman 140.6  Barcelona was taking place at a different point of the old world. The swimming stage of 3800 meters in the Mediterranean Sea, 180 km bike and 42.2 km run in the picturesque city of Calella this year attracted 2767 athletes from around the world.

40 Kazakhstan Age Grouppers passed the Barcelona “full iron” distance and became the owners of the Ironman honorary title, showing decent results.

The best time among the our athletes was demonstrated by the participant of the 2004 Olympic Games, the winner of the TEMIRADAM Cup stage in Almaty in 2019, Ekaterina Shatnaya. The athlete was able to overcome the entire distance in 9 hours 42 minutes and 25 seconds. The result allowed Ekaterina to become the first in her age group and the 14th in the overall standings for women, which gave her the right to race at the Ironman World Championships in Kailua-Kona. Timur Iglikov finished in the category of men with the best time - 9 hours 48 minutes 03 seconds. Thus Timur was able to become the 49th among 283 athletes who performed in his age group.
