Kazakhstanis crowned the Asian Triathlon Championship in Cholpon-Ata

Today in Cholpon-Ata the 2021 Asia Triathlon Sprint Championships Cholpon-Ata was held. The continental championship was attended by 60 Elite & U15 athletes, who competed in the sprint and super-sprint distances. Kazakhstan was represented in each category of participants.

Elite women were the first to compete for the continental title. In this category, Kazakhstani Yekaterina Shabalina won her debut silver medal at the continental championship with a time 1:03:21. She entered the top 6 of the best at the Olympic distance Asian Championship, which was held in Hatsukaichi on April 24, 2021.

“I am very glad to be on the podium! This is my first medal from an international race. I worked from start to finish, I didn't have enough on the run. But I know in which direction to work further. Thanks to my coaches, relatives and the whole team! ”- Ekaterina Shabalina shared after the race.

The first and third places were taken by representatives of Japan - Sarika Nakayama (1:03:12) and Chisato Nakajima (1:03:51). Other representatives of the Kazakhstani national team successfully completed the competition: Nadezhda Bekmaganbetova finished in fourth place (1:05:42), Yulia Ozerova - in eighth place (1:07:49).

The spectacular race was performed by the men of this category. Here, two athletes of the Kazakhstani national team entered the podium at once.
The swimming segment in the top three was completed by Japanese Kyotaro Yoshikawa (8:41), representatives of Uzbekistan Alexander Kurishov (8:40) and Alexander Reshetnikov (8:42). Leaders changed throughout the bike, but at the final stage everything fell into place. Member of the national team Daryn Konysbaev was the first to finish the race at a comfortable pace. The champion's final time is 55:53. Bronze was won by Ayan Beisenbayev with a time of 56:58. The Kazakh podium was "diluted" by the Japanese Kyotaro Yoshikava (56:44), who took the second place.

“This is my first win in the Elite Asian Championship. The race went according to plan. Swimming, of course, turned out to be not entirely successful, but the long transit played into the hands, the gap was worked out with the team at the bike. At the beginning of the run, I already knew that I would be in the top three. To be honest, I felt that it was much easier for me than for other rivals. I am very happy with my victory! ”Daryn Konysbaev commented on his victory.

Our other athletes who competed in this category also finished successfully. Meirlan Iskakov finished the race in seventh place with a result of 58:29, Temirlan Temirov in eighth with a time of 58:44.

In the category of youths U15 at the distance, Kazakhstanis completely dominated and occupied the entire podium. The first place was taken by Nikita Dubinsky with a result of 27:33, the second - Stanislav Glock (27:59) and, finally, the third - Timur Bakirov (28:25). Alinabi Maralbekov finished fifth (28:48).

In the F-U15, Kazakhstani Diana Yerzhanova made a splash, who showed a strong character, fought to the last and won the race. She crossed the finish line in 31:48 and won her first gold in the continental championship. The second place was taken by the representative of Kyrgyzstan Alfina Artykodzhaeva with a time of 32:31. The third place was closed by another Kazakh athlete Angelina Redchenko with a result of 32:35.
