Kazakhstan athlete for the first time won a medal at the Asian Triathlon Championship
Today in Gyeongju (South Korea), the Asian Triathlon Championship started, which brought together professional triathletes and paratriathletes from all over the Asian continent.
On the first day of the competition, 29 Elite women from China, Macau, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taipei, the Philippines, Japan, Singapore and Kazakhstan competed in a serious struggle for the coveted Olympic ranking points.
After the swimming program, the athletes were divided into two main groups: the first nine sailed with a minute advantage, and our athletes Arina Shulgina (Nur-Sultan) and Gaziza Kumakbaeva (Almaty) led the pursuing group.
At the cycle stage, the situation has not changed much. Arina Shulgina still held the lead in the second group. Here it is worth noting the special invaluable contribution of Gaziza Kumakbaeva, who throughout the swimming and cycle stages helped Arina to reach the most advantageous positions and lead. By the end of the cycling stage, our athletes were able to reduce the gap to 25 seconds.
Decisive was the last running stage, where the athletes showed all their experience and skill.
During the running program, the first leading “pack” could not resist the wet weather of Gyeongju and the athletes began to lag behind each other. But Arina Shulgina did not slow down the initial pace and maintained this speed until the very finish. As a result of excellent confident work, Arina was able to get ahead of her rivals and win the first bronze medal in the history of the Kazakhstan women's triathlon at Asian Championships.
Japanese Ai Ueda, who recently won the World Cup in Nur Sultan, once again showed her experience and won the “gold”. Another representative of the land of the rising sun, Yuri Ide, was awarded the silver medal.
Further, we will have the opportunity to cheer for Ayan Beisenbaev and Temirlan Temirov, who will perform in the Elite category among men. The coaching staff also has great hopes for Daryn Konysbaev and Alexander Ten, who compete in the categories U23 and U15, respectively.
The championship will last until June 23 and the first day with a historically won medal among women was successful for the Kazakhstan team.
