The Nazarbayev University School of Medicine launched a Master of Science Program in Sports Medicine, Rehabilitation and Sports Analytics
Master of Science Program in Sports Medicine, Rehabilitation and Sports Analytics was launched last year. Today, the first graduates of the program will undergo practical training in the Kazakhstan Triathlon Federation, forming the scientific human capital of the national triathlon.
“Kazakhstani science needs new researchers who know scientifically based, modern methods and technologies in sports medicine and rehabilitation with research and analytical skills. We have a goal of harmonizing the unity of theoretical knowledge, research skills and practical actions. The structure of the Master's program begins with the fundamentals of the human body functions, including metabolism and nutrition related to physical training. The program conveys knowledge about the mechanics of the human body during exercise and injury. Students will be provided with information on how to apply this knowledge to improve athletic performance and rehabilitation of injuries, ”commented Yeltay Rakhmanov, deputy Master of Science Program in Sports Medicine, Rehabilitation and Sports Analytics.
The Master's Program in Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation is a two-year degree that will provide graduates with theoretical and practical knowledge in the field. The program's research orientation will help graduates develop analytical skills as well as teach innovation in healthcare practice. The long-term goal of this initiative is to promote evidence-based sports practice.
The main focus of the master's program is to develop a curriculum that meets international standards and to train health professionals in evidence-based practice. Graduates of the program will be able to provide services in various areas of sports medicine and rehabilitation in accordance with international standards of medical care.
Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will be able to:
- Apply knowledge of musculoskeletal physiology, metabolism, biomechanics, exercise physiology, injury prevention, psychology and nutrition in the field of sports medicine and rehabilitation;
- Apply the acquired skills to develop training regimes in order to achieve optimal sports results;
- Develop the best methods of injury rehabilitation;
- Apply the skills of critical and analytical thinking to research problems in the field of sports medicine and rehabilitation;
- Analyze and communicate complex scientific information related to sports medicine and rehabilitation.
Graduates of the master's program will be able to enroll in PhD doctoral studies in Kazakhstan or abroad. At the same time, they will be able to work as rehabilitation therapists, physiotherapists, doctors of sports teams, physical education teachers at the high school or university levels, specialists in military training and rehabilitation, as well as build a career in the field of professional sports' fitness and private sports companies.
